Morgan Klenke,
President

Morgan Klenke, originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, studies Finance, Economics, and International Business at the University of South Carolina.  She enjoys the intricacies of finance and spent last semester studying finance at Bocconi University in Milan.  After interning within Pricing Analytics at LabCorp and Global Markets at GE Capital, Morgan spent last summer with Jefferies, an investment bank in New York, and is excited to return upon graduation this spring. Outside the classroom, Morgan enjoys sailing on the Gamecock Sailing Team, volunteering at a local orphanage, and playing soccer with friends.

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Drew is a Junior Finance and Accounting major in the Moore School. He has been a member of the Fund since August of 2016, holding roles in both the Healthcare and Financial Institutions sectors. He has worked at Capitala Group, a Charlotte-based private equity firm, and the South Carolina State Treasury as part of their Investment Management Team. This upcoming summer, Drew will work as a Summer Analyst at Credit Suisse in their Investment Banking division.

Drew claims the most enjoyable part of the Fund is having to constantly learn and grow. “In my first year as an analyst in the Healthcare sector, I definitely was able to recognize that the mix of both analysis and communication fit my strong suits. Knowing this, it was much easier to want to take on more responsibility and teach others what I had learned.”

Drew hopes to grow the Fund in the coming years into one of the premier investment clubs in the Southeast. Outside of the Fund, Drew enjoys playing intramural soccer and is an active member of Kappa Sigma.

Danny McLauren,

Daniel McLaren is a Senior from Breezy Point, New York, a small town in Queens. He joined the Fund in the Spring of 2018 after completing his first semester as a member of the Carolina Finance Scholars Program. Following his Sophomore year, Daniel worked for HPS Investment Partners, a global investment firm located in New York City. Following his Junior year, he worked for Credit Suisse as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst in Leveraged Finance Capital Markets.

Daniel believes that joining the Fund has greatly enhanced his professional development. “The Carolina Fund offers students a great chance to enhance hard skills, such as modeling and industry analysis, as well as soft skills, such as networking and presentation.” He feels that the Fund allows students a unique opportunity to develop these important skills, which is not offered by general coursework.

Going forward, Daniel hopes to continue to see the Fund grow into a useful resource for students looking for careers in finance. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and experiences with fellow Fund members to continue to strengthen the finance program at the University of South Carolina.

Vihar Dalal,
Chief Marketing Officer

Vihar is a sophomore from Columbia, SC majoring in Finance and International Business. He joined the Carolina Fund in the Fall semester of 2017 as a member of the Energy team and is currently a member of the Portfolio Management Team where he helps to maintain and update the Carolina Fund’s Portfolio. He is also a Peer Tutor for foundational business courses.

Vihar has gained invaluable skills and exposure to the financial world through the Carolina Fund. As he continues his education, Vihar hopes to continue to learn from and contribute to this organization. Furthermore, he plans to apply these skills to his post-graduation career as a Research Assistant for the Federal Reserve.

Vihar hopes to grow and maintain the Carolina Fund so that it can continue to educate other students about the finance and investment. Outside of the Carolina Fund, Vihar plays cello in the University of South Carolina’s Symphony Orchestra.

Daniel McLaren is a Junior from Breezy Point, New York, a small town in Queens. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Drew is a Sophomore Finance and Accounting major in the Moore School. He has been a member of the Fund since August of 2016, holding roles in both the Healthcare and Financial Institutions sectors. He has worked at the South Carolina State Treasury as part of their Investment Management Team, helping manage $15 billion in fixed income securities for the state. In the upcoming summer, Drew will work as an intern at Capitala Group, a Charlotte-based private equity firm.

Sean Siehl

Healthcare Team

Sean Siehl is a Junior from Charleston, South Carolina and is majoring in Finance and minoring in Economics. Sean was excited to join The Carolina Fund his first semester at USC last fall. “It was exactly what I was looking for, the Fund has surrounded me with the tools I need to further my understanding of Finance.”

 

The Carolina Fund has helped many students, like Sean, to take their passion for finance one step further. The Carolina Fund is a great place to learn about the financial markets and other real life tools that professionals use every day. Sean immediately took initiative and taught himself as much as he could ultimately landing a position on the board. “I think this is a fantastic organization that has a lot to offer, I enjoy being in the position to help new members learn as much as I have.”

Sean transferred from Coker College where he played for the men’s soccer team. He decided he wanted to pursue his passion for Finance and decided to transfer to The University of South Carolina his Sophomore year. The Carolina Fund was one of the very first things he joined at USC and is thankful for the aid the organization provided.

Sean Siehl

JanLuke Iftime is a senior studying Finance, Global Supply Chain and Operations Management, and Human Resource Management. He joined The Carolina Fund in the spring of 2017 as an analyst for the Technology Sector, hoping to further develop his financial analysis skills and work with like minded individuals. Following an internship at Boeing as a Financial Analyst, JanLuke interned at Wells Fargo Securities where he will be returning upon graduation. Looking forward, JanLuke hopes to share his interest in tech with the Fund and to attract more students to the organization. He's very passionate about the tech industry being that it is such a strong driver of our future society and enjoys learning about new, cutting edge products. JanLuke also believes that the Fund is a great learning opportunity for everyone and is looking forward to having students from non-business backgrounds become involved as well. He said, "The more diverse backgrounds and experiences our members have, the stronger our group is. We each possess a unique knowledge base which allows an individual to add value to the Fund through active participation in the organization."

William Patterson is a Senior Finance major from California. William joined The Carolina Fund in the Fall of 2017 as a member of the Industrials team, which he is now the Sector Head for.

William works on developing trading algorithms as well as performing stock analysis for a local asset manager. His favorite aspect of The Carolina Fund is being able to surround himself with people who share the same passion and interest as him. He enjoys exploring unique and different ways to extract alpha from the market and seeing the collective sharing of ideas among members.

William joined the Carolina Fund to develop his Real World skills, and hopes to share the information he's learned to expand the collective knowledge among all members.

Wil Patterson

Industrials

Lewis is a junior from Knoxville, Tennessee triple majoring in Finance, International Business, and Economics and minoring in Spanish. Lewis has been a part of the Carolina Fund since January 2017. He also currently works as an investments intern at the South Carolina Retirement System Investment Commission and has previously worked as a private equity analyst at Bluegrass Equity. Lewis is a member of the Carolina Finance Scholars Program and is pursuing a career in investment banking.

The Carolina Fund provides students like Lewis the opportunity to learn and apply professional investment analysis. It is a great place to gain exposure in different sectors and learn about the underlying drivers for the valuations.

In addition to his involvement with the Carolina Fund, Lewis is also the president at the Carolina Finance and Investment Association, an ambassador for the South Carolina Honors College, and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi. He hopes to help other members develop a deeper understanding of financial modeling, macroeconomic drivers, and due diligence research at the Carolina Fund.

Walker Ranney is a Senior from Thomaston, Maine. He joined the Fund in the Fall of 2017. He is a double major in International Business and Finance and is a member of the Carolina Finance Scholars Program. Following graduation, he will be joining Wells Fargo Securities as an Investment Banking Analyst in the bank’s industrials group.

The Carolina Fund has allowed Walker to meet like-minded individuals with interest in financial markets who have helped Walker learn tools that have helped him in both his academics and career. He has enjoyed being able to gain knowledge that wouldn’t be learned in the classroom.

Walker hopes The Carolina Fund continues to grow and helps spur interest in finance for students at the Moore School.
